It's a type 2 gold one dollar coin minted in the mid 19th Century (this style was only minted between 1854 and 1856)
The piece has been crafted as stylized snakes
who thinks it might not be a good idea — that they should stop because it’s dangerous and they might both "fall overboard"

The rococo surround borders a central disc with an enamelled rooster and the words "quand ce coq chantera, mon amitie finira," or When that rooster crows, my love will end.
